Remarkable Success even in Challenging Times

On the top of Masada (Mayanot Israel/Birthright Israel Trip) In the summer of 2024, Mayanot's Birthright Israel department achieved remarkable success against a backdrop of regional tensions, made worse by their coverage on USA news-media channels. As Israel continues its campaign of self-defense against Hamas and other terrorist organizations, Mayanot Israel demonstrated resilience and dedication in connecting young Jews with their land, their people and their heritage. Now more than ever, this mission is critical. Despite the challenges facing Israel travel, Mayanot successfully brought 516 participants to the country from May to July for their flagship 10-day Birthright Israel trip. This achievement did not come easily, but the department's dedicated team and partners worked 'round the clock to ensure that anyone that was committed enough - and brave enough - to come to Israel at this time was afforded the opportunity. A Special Visit from Hart and Simona Hasten: Friends of Mayanot and Champions of Jewish Education

On October 9th, we had the honor of welcoming Hart and Simona Hasten, dear friends of Rabbi Shemtov and long-time supporters of Mayanot. The Hastens visited for their first tour of the new Mayanot World Center, where they shared their incredible journey with our students. As they stood on the rooftop, they imagined the future of this space—where hundreds of students, Birthright trips, and Shabbat meals will bring Jewish life and learning to new heights. In a deeply moving ceremony, our students gathered to hear from Hart, now 93 years old, who shared stories of his close friendship with former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. Hart spoke of their shared passion for Jewish education and his lifelong commitment to the Jewish people. It was an inspiring day, filled with wisdom, gratitude, and a deep connection to the future of Jewish learning.
